RED

No, this isn’t a review of Krzysztof Kieslowski’s classic film. It’s all about the hills
of Salinas and seashores of Monterey Bay turning red. Ferrari Red. The 31st
annual Rolex Monterey Historic Automobile Races presented by Chrysler are
taking place this week at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. Now that I have
mentioned all the sponsors by name I can cut the crap and get to the point. The
month of August means only one thing. “Monterey” as in Historics. “Laguna” as in
Laguna Seca.

Ferrari is the name of the game this year and one can only imagine that every
stereotype of individual will be on display strutting their stuff… Carmel, the wharf,
Quail Lodge and let’s not forget the auctions. But what it is really about is the cars
and the entry for the Monterey Historics is more than impressive. I am running
again this year and you, dear reader, will be subjected to my daily POV at the end
of each day’s silliness.

The photos shown on the right are crates as shipped over from Italy from Ferrari
and the hills will be alive with current F1 noise. Some are betting that the timed
exhibition runs will set a new track record at Laguna. Personally, I would rather
hear the wonderful tone of the 512 sports prototypes from 1970-71. No doubt I will
be getting an earful as there are six 512’s in the class I am entered in. More later, I
got to finish packing.
