City Slickers "The "Big Figure" (as seems to be my new moniker) approves of street circuits. Sure, the racing can be processional, sometimes, but the opportunity for the fans to get up close and personal to the action can't be beaten and whilst there may be less overtaking, the racing is certainly interesting in many other ways.... Generally, the fans recognise this also, and do turn out.........more
Tin Top Heaven The 2008 WTCC finally finished its tour of the Americas and landed in Europe last week at Valencia. As ever the show was first rate, even Mister Huff managing to get past the first corner to win a race. Bay City Blues To Laguna Seca for the final round of the 2008 ALMS...........by any standards it has been a very successful year for the Braselton based organisation, with the strongest and most diverse grids in Sportscar racing, some might say in any form of motor sport. A Different Kind of Race On my fifth day in China, I realized I was experiencing a real-life version of the movie The Truman Show. I was one of the thousands of extras, each of us repeating our steps from the day before – busily hurrying across the same street each morning, either walking to a venue a couple of blocks away or trying to catch a bus to a remote locale. Every one had the same expression on their face – smile and excitement this day early in the month of August, only to be replaced by looks of fatigue and weariness as the days wore on. .... more >>>
SoCal SoCool This last weekend, I was blown away (literally, as well as metaphorically) by two events that were held in Southern California. Two events that, on the face of it, appeared as different as two automotive-related events can be. Yet both are tied by the common bond of car-culture, and, as I am a car-nut, and I am visiting SoCal, both were also firsts on my dance card..........more >>>
On the Waterfront I could have had class, I could have been a contender. I could have been somebody.............Terry Malloy Well, that would have been the story line for the R10 back in 2007 but on the mean streets of Long Beach, Audi made the transition from contenders to champs........ more
