The Silverstone 1000Kms run yesterday will go down in history as one of those races run in the most extreme conditions possible............more like a power boat event or a rehearsal for the storm scene from King Lear, directed by one of the more insane theatrical impresarios......utter madness..........what next, the 12 Hours of Cape Horn? As usual such events bring Heroes and Villains...........Allan McNish confirmed his place as the pre-eminent R8 hustler, bringing a direction and shape to the ORECA team that they had lacked this year and restoring them to their rightful place at the head of the pack; the delight that Hughes de Chaunac and his boys showed in winning revealed the depth of their despair at the way things have gone for them so far, winners do not suddenly become losers. Nic Minassian, Ian Bickerton and the other desperadoes in the Creation Autosportif outfit showed why they are the top privateer team operating at present, if there were any justice both teams would have stood proud on the top step but justice is a concept alien to this world.......... Hell, all the drivers and marshals deserve a campaign medal for the way they conducted themselves yesterday.........this day will go into legend standing proud with the 1970 Brands Hatch 1000Kms I was lucky to be surfing along on the sidelines..........this is what I saw when my periscope was up.................... |
