Reach for the Roget's...........it's Revival time again......superlatives and
cliches abound, garden party party, good old days, season of mists and
mellow fruitfulness, real racing in real cars, the right crowd and no
crowding..........all burst forth like bubbles in a champagne flute and the
reason simply is, that for the most part it's true.......the Goodwood Revival
is a fantastic event part fantasy, part escapism, part style, all
entertainment.
In 2008 with the economic disasters overwhelming us on a daily basis, we
all need this kind of happy diversion, like the Fred Astaire/ Ginger Rogers
dance fantasies that warmed the Depression victims, but this one is for the
petrol heads of the following century.
Our heroes from yesterday were there, the numbers thinned with the
passing of each year but Moss, Brooks, Brabham, Stewart, Ickx, Fittipaldi
and all the others were shown the proper respect.
Lord March seemed to have fixed the weather, the crowd on and off the
track did the rest...........roll on September 2009....we may all be on short
rations then.
