It’s a dirty job but you gotta do it……………well, sometimes the life of travel and toil
at the circuits is better than others…….rain at Oschersleben or snow at Snetterton
is more than a little disappointing or even discouraging…………so when the Test
Weekend for this year’s 24 Hours of Le Mans rolled round it was more than a
pleasant surprise to be travelling in style………..
On the way down Aston Martin had fixed up Andrew Cotton and I with a DB9
Convertible for a promo visit along the way to AML’s Champagne partner, the
venerable house of Jacquesson, just north of Eperney…….two high quality
products……….to the amazement of all we arrived on time and more or less on
budget at La Sarthe, despite the crippling cost of fuel……plus both car and drivers
were unscathed.
For the return trip to Blighty a diversionary raid over Germany to the Nurburgring
had been arranged by Squadron Leader Laban……….our Mosquito was in the
form of a V8 Vantage……….a promo piece for Aston’s participation in the
Nurburgring 24 Hours was the mission…………it was, to say the least, a test of
endurance with over 800 miles to be covered in a day……..SqL “Lippy” Laban flew
the kite brilliantly with able assistance from his navigator, yours truly.
A few shots were fired by us along the way………….see for yourselves……….
